What the rule is
While a bonus is active, the casino limits how much you may stake on a single spin or round. Going over it can cost you the bonus and what you won with it. It is one line in the terms, and it applies from the first spin.
Why the rule exists
A bonus has to be wagered a set number of times. With very large bets you could get through that in a handful of rounds and hope for one big hit. The maximum bet stops that: it forces the wagering to be spread over many rounds.
What our casinos set
Of the 42 casinos we refer players to, 31 set the limit at €100 and 10 at €5. Sportuna Casino uses both: €100 in general, €5 once you are betting with bonus money.
Why €5 and €100 are not the same rule
Take a €100 deposit with a €100 bonus and 35x wagering on both: €7,000 in bets. At €100 a round that is 70 rounds. At €5 it is at least 1,400. The €5 limit is not stricter by a little — it changes how long the bonus takes.
What happens if you go over
We have not recorded this casino by casino. Going over the limit can cost you the bonus and what you won with it; whether a casino warns first or acts on a single bet, we can't tell you. Treat the limit as hard.
Three ways people break it without meaning to
- Raising the stake after a win while the bonus is still running.
- Bonus-buy features and gamble or double-up buttons — the price of the feature or the doubled amount can count as the bet.
- Thinking the limit ends when the bonus money is gone. It ends when the wagering is complete or the bonus is cancelled.
Where to find it
The limit is in the bonus terms of the casino, and each of our casino reviews shows it in the facts table. How the terms line up from casino to casino is on our page about the same bonus terms; the claims people make about the claw itself are in Bonus Crab myths.
